What I'm Reading This Week

I figured since I am making it a goal to read more, I should share what I've read, currently reading, and in my summer reading bucket list. This looks like a movie I am sure my husband will geek out on as it is action/adventure and about robotics! Let me know what you think!

Summer Reading Bucket List

With the beginning of summer and more time with the kids and outdoors, I figured I better put together a Summer Reading Bucket List for myself. I have tons of books, I just don't ever get to reading them like I should! Since I started making it a personal goal to read at least one book a week, the only logical thing now is to make a list! Our local library has an adult summer reading program as well as their children's so I signed up for that. Here are the books I want to read. Are there any on your list? Are there any I should add to mine?

Transformation Tuesdays Week 21

I think that this was a great idea for myself! I feel I have been more conscious of what I have been doing and feel like I can keep this up and then build on it. Two things I have really tried to work on are my blog posts. I have been trying to do more so that I can do more with my blog. I have dreams for my blog that I wish I could do like others I know can and do with their popular blogs!

Another major goal of mine is to be more into the word. As my husband and I are getting more involved with our church, the more I believe we should be in our devotions and growing our relationship with God. I should be spending more time than I currently do. I can personally tell you that when I am in my devotions, the rest of my day is great. I am less angry and more patient. I am less depressed and more blessed!

I also am in the process of getting a "bored" jar together for the kids and a Summer Bucket List, too! I will share those with you later this week as I am trying to get my ideas put together and then get the things for those projects together too!

I hope these goals have helped inspire you with your own personal goals. I don't know about you, but having them written down visually has helped me to be more aware of them! What goals do you have on your personal list? Do you have success with personal goals?

DreamWorks THE HUNDRED-FOOT JOURNEY Trailer now available!

I consider myself an amateur cook. I love to cook. I saw the title of this trailer for The Hundred Foot Journey and I am blown away! It wouldn't be something I would look at, and even reading the synopsis, I was thinking "Not my kind of movie" Watch the trailer, and I am sure you will be like me! I need to learn to not judge a movie by it's synopsis. Let me know in the comments what you think of this trailer!

In “The Hundred-Foot Journey,” Hassan Kadam (Manish Dayal) is a culinary ingénue with the gastronomic equivalent of perfect pitch. Displaced from their native India, the Kadam family, led by Papa (Om Puri), settles in the quaint village of Saint-Antonin-Noble-Val in the south of France. Filled with charm, it is both picturesque and elegant – the ideal place to settle down and open an Indian restaurant, the Maison Mumbai. That is, until the chilly chef proprietress of Le Saule Pleureur, a Michelin starred, classical French restaurant run by Madame Mallory (Academy Award®-winner Helen Mirren), gets wind of it. Her icy protests against the new Indian restaurant a hundred feet from her own, escalate to all out war between the two establishments – until Hassan’s passion for French haute cuisine and for Mme. Mallory’s enchanting sous chef, Marguerite (Charlotte Le Bon), combine with his mysteriously delicious talent to weave magic between their two cultures and imbue Saint-Antonin with the flavors of life that even Mme. Mallory cannot ignore. At first Mme. Mallory's culinary rival, she eventually recognizes Hassan's gift as a chef and takes him under her wing.

“The Hundred-Foot Journey” abounds with flavors that burst across the tongue. A stimulating triumph over exile, blossoming with passion and heart, with marjoram and madras, it is a portrayal of two worlds colliding and one boy’s drive to find the comfort of home, in every pot, wherever he may be.

In DreamWorks Pictures’ “The Hundred-Foot Journey,” the opening of a new Indian restaurant in the south of France, next to a famous Michelin starred eatery, is nearly cause for an all-out war between the two establishments until Le Saule Pleureur’s icy proprietress Madame Mallory recognizes her rival’s undeniable brilliance for preparing masterful meals.

Help The Planes Crew Prevent Wildfires!

Washington, D.C. – May 22, 2014— In an effort to educate Americans about how to prevent accidental wildfires, Disney is joining the Ad Council, the U.S. Forest Service and the National Association of State Foresters (NASF) to launch a new series of public service advertisements (PSAs) featuring scenes and characters from Disneytoon Studios’ upcoming animated film “Planes: Fire & Rescue.” The PSAs are an extension of the Wildfire Prevention PSA campaign, featuring the iconic Smokey Bear, who celebrates his 70th birthday this summer.

According to the U.S. Forest Service, over the past 13 years, an annual average of 6.7 million acres have been burned by wildfire. The most common sources of human-caused wildfires are campfires left unattended, debris burning on windy days, careless discarding of smoking materials and BBQ coals, and operating equipment without spark arrestors. Nine out of ten wildfires nationwide are caused by humans, yet many can be prevented by taking simple steps to properly put out a campfire.

“When we decided to make ‘Planes: Fire & Rescue,’ our team of filmmakers made several research trips to meet the brave men and women whose job it is to fight wildfires,” says Bobs Gannaway, “Planes: Fire & Rescue” director. “Those research trips changed us and forever impressed upon us the importance of wildfire prevention. To have our character, Dusty, take part in the legendary Smokey Bear’s campaign to prevent wildfires and encourage safe outdoor fire practices is one of the highest honors we could have.”

Created pro bono by Disney, the new English and Spanish television, out of home, digital and radio PSAs feature leading characters from the film, including air racer-turned-fire-fighting plane Dusty, spirited air tanker Dipper, veteran fire-and-rescue helicopter Blade Ranger and loving tourists Harvey and Winnie. The PSAs encourage audiences to be “Smokey’s Wingman” and do their part in preventing wildfires. The ads teach audiences the proper steps of extinguishing a campfire: drown the fire, stir it, drown it again and feel that the fire is out cold.

“We are excited to have characters of ‘Planes: Fire & Rescue’serve as ambassadors of Smokey's wildfire prevention message," said Forest Service Chief Tom Tidwell. "In teaching people campfire safety tips, these PSAs will further the message of wildfire prevention to a broad audience."

The PSAs encourage audiences to visit www.SmokeyBear.com<http://www.smokeybear.com/> for more safety tips and information on Smokey Bear and the Wildfire Prevention campaign. The website also features an interactive real-time wildfire map and a gallery of historic Smokey Bear ads over the last seven decades. Smokey Bear has an active social media presence, with more than 190,000 fans on Facebook<https://www.facebook.com/smokeybear>, over 23,000 followers on Twitter<https://twitter.com/smokey_bear> and over 689,000 total video views on YouTube<https://www.youtube.com/user/Smokeybear>.

“These PSAs are a wonderful extension of our longest running campaign and one of the most successful public service campaigns in history,” said Peggy Conlon, president and CEO of the Ad Council. “I’m confident that both the media and the public will embrace these ads and help continue to spread Smokey’s important wildfire prevention message.”

Announced last week, the campaign has also created new PSAs to celebrate Smokey’s 70th birthday, which is August 9th. First introduced in 1944, Smokey Bear has become the recognized symbol of wildfire prevention across America. Smokey Bear’s message, “Only You Can Prevent Wildfires,” is known by seven out of ten adults. The Wildfire Prevention campaign is the longest-running PSA campaign in our nation’s history.

The PSAs have been distributed to more than 33,000 outlets nationwide and, per the Ad Council’s model, all of the PSAs will air in advertising time and space donated by the media industry. Since 1980, media outlets have donated more than $1.4 billion in time and space for the campaign.

U.S. Forest Service

The mission of the U.S. Forest Service (www.fs.fed.us<http://www.fs.fed.us/>) is to sustain the health, diversity, and productivity of the Nation’s forests and grasslands to meet the needs of present and future generations.  The U.S. Forest Service is the agency responsible for overseeing the use of Smokey Bear in cooperation with the National Association of State Foresters and The Advertising Council.  The Wildfire Prevention campaign, featuring Smokey Bear, is the longest running PSA campaign in U.S. history.

National Association of State Foresters
The National Association of State Foresters is comprised of the directors of forestry agencies from the fifty states, eight U.S. territories and associated states, and the District of Columbia. Through public-private partnership, NASF seeks to advance sustainable forestry, conservation, and protection of forest lands and their associated resources. As a partner with the U.S. Forest Service, State Foresters are committed to the continued delivery of Smokey Bear's message of personal responsibility in wildfire protection.

The Ad Council

The Ad Council is a private, non-profit organization with a rich history of marshalling volunteer talent from the advertising and media industries to deliver critical messages to the American public. Having produced literally thousands of PSA campaigns addressing the most pressing social issues of the day, the Ad Council has affected, and continues to affect, tremendous positive change by raising awareness, inspiring action and saving lives. ABOUT “PLANES: FIRE & RESCUE”

Cinderella Teaser Trailer

Anyone else watch this?!? I am so excited they are bringing classic stories to life BUT this kind of trailer drives me crazy! I want MORE! And I'm sure that is why they did it this way, too! We have a while to wait too, Cinderella will come to theatres on March 13th, 2015.

Synopsis:

The story of “Cinderella” follows the fortunes of young Ella (Lily James) whose merchant father remarries following the death of her mother. Eager to support her loving father, Ella welcomes her new stepmother (Cate Blanchett) and her daughters Anastasia (Holliday Grainger) and Drisella (Sophie McShera) into the family home. But, when Ella’s father unexpectedly passes away, she finds herself at the mercy of a jealous and cruel new family. Finally relegated to nothing more than a servant girl covered in ashes, and spitefully renamed Cinderella, Ella could easily begin to lose hope. Yet, despite the cruelty inflicted upon her, Ella is determined to honor her mother’s dying words and to “have courage and be kind.” She will not give in to despair nor despise those who mistreat her. And then there is the dashing stranger she meets in the woods. Unaware that he is really a prince, not merely an apprentice at the Palace, Ella finally feels she has met a kindred soul. It appears her fortunes may be about to change when the Palace sends out an open invitation for all maidens to attend a ball, raising Ella’s hopes of once again encountering the charming Kit (Richard Madden). Alas, her stepmother forbids her to attend and callously rips apart her dress. But, as in all good fairy tales, help is at hand, and a kindly beggar woman (Helena Bonham-Carter) steps forward and – armed with a pumpkin and a few mice – changes Cinderella’s life forever.

Transformation Tuesdays Week 20

I know I have been failing on this too often. I want to be happy and healthy and I am really realizing more and more that isn't just with weight, it's also with my attitude. We had a great sermon over the weekend that really hit me (enough to cry!) He took his wife's purse and held up a dumbbell. It represented every diet we here of that changes every week, the way society tells us that we need to look. He took another and it represented how well your children are expected to be perfect in public. Another for how the house needs to be clean and spotless ALL the time. He put all of these in the purse and had his wife try to pick it up. Of course she couldn't! (And fear of breaking the bag! LOL) We as women have all these extra weights we carry around. We feel that to be the best wife and mom we have to do EVERYTHING or we fail. That has been the pressures I have faced. I have been in a major funk and being told to dump that extra weight was what I needed to hear! If we are Godly women, everything else will fall into place. Yes, there is more I can do and I know it. And for that I believe I will start a weekly goal list and then come back every week and say how those goals have gone and to continue and/or start more the next week.

Personal Goals For This Week:

  • Write one blog post a day this week
  • Daily Devotional at least 3 times this week
  • Track Daily Food Intake at least 5 times this week
  • Go to the Gym 1 time this week
  • Read one book
  • Drink at least 64 oz of water a day
  • Take the kids to the splash park at least 2 times this week
  • DON'T WEIGH SELF UNTIL NEXT TUESDAY MORNING!

Review: Chengdu Could Not, Would Not Fall Asleep

*Disclaimer: I received a free copy of Chengdu Could Not, Would Not Fall Asleep from Disney Publishing Worldwide in return for a review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

A few weeks ago, we got a great surprise in the mail! We opened it and found that we had received a GREAT book called Chengdu Could Not, Would Not Fall Asleep to review! We had never heard of this book before, but anything with pandas HAS to be good! We are a family that loves to read! Add in anything with bears of any kind and my husband is sold on it!

The book is not a long read, which is great for my youngest. The illustrations are done beautifully and he was  inspired to draw them by his wife Susan's adventurous photographs. It tells a story of a panda named Chengdu. Everyone was fast asleep, all except Chengdu. He tries many ways to fall asleep and just can't.

Another thing, I love about this book is that its not like a normal book. There are a couple pages to pull out to see even more of the whole picture! My kids like that we can pull out the page and Chengdu is somewhere else on the page.

I definitely recommend this book if you have young children in your household. It is a cute little book that everyone in the family will enjoy!

You can find Chengdu Could Not, Would Not Fall Asleep on sale at Amazon.com , Walmart.com, or anywhere books are sold!
